Behind the Design: Chuck Milne

While pale pinks and taupes been popular in weddings, trends featured in August’s Bridal Extravaganza of Atlanta predict bold pops of color and more lush greenery for upcoming wedding seasons.

Always bringing garden party vibes to Bridal Extravaganza of Atlanta, Chuck Milne’s gallery with Club Corp drew brides in with large statement arrangements, cascading greenery and punches of hot pink and orange. Read on for a look behind the design with Chuck Milne of Chuck Milne Productions

What inspired this design? This design was inspired by a bride and her mother. The bride’s style was very organic, colorful, brave and whimsical. She had pinned a picture of a Mackenzie Childs chair she loved that had multiple patterns and was very whimsical. The mother of the bride was more traditional and preferred blush and gold. Our design was a nod to the pair with colorful and bold patterns channeling texture mixture like Mackenzie Childs, but with a touch of tradition throughout.

The cake display really caught brides’ attention, how did you make this a centerpiece? The cake design was inspired by the watercolor table linen. We took a photo of the watercolor linen, ran it through the computer,  then Perfect Wedding Cake replicated it with a painted design. Rather than putting the beautiful cake on a standard table, we wanted it to sit up more and be a centerpiece for the whole design so we put it on a large urn with greenery.

There is an art to the perfectly designed table. Tell us about how you layered so many elements for a cohesive design. The bride loved fruit, she had tons of fruit images pinned on her Pinterest board so we incorporated oranges for a pop of color and depth. The linen was from I Do Linens and was at the center of much of the design. For the place settings, we took inspiration from the bride and her mother. Inspired by the bride, we did a leaf-shaped charger that was organic and whimsical. To give a nod to tradition for the mother’s style, we did vintage gold plates, gold silverware, and glassware.

What is your process like working with brides? Anytime I talk to brides, I will start by looking at their Pinterest board. Even if they don’t know what they want. Seeing images they like and have repinned is helpful to see their style. I take it as my job to reign in their style no matter how many different things they may have interest in.

Behind the Design: Designs by TTOC Floral

Designs by TTOC knows glam, and their gallery at August’s Bridal Extravaganza of Atlanta brought plenty of it with Berkeley Hills Country Club. While still making an up-scale statement, Designs by TTOC shifted from their Millennium Chic pink gallery in the January show, to black and gold glam in the August show.

What was your inspiration for this design? The inspiration actually came from the linen we used in the design. I was looking through samples for something to catch my eye, and I came across this beautiful two-tone black and gold linen. If you brushed it one way it was black, if you brushed it another way it was gold. It was a dynamic interest piece that guided the rest of the design.

What color schemes, textures and themes were included in the design? In addition to the sequin linen, we brought in a few different shades of gold to give the design more depth. The flowers added another layer of interest with a mix of high and low arrangements to complement the glam table setting. We used orchids, a variety of roses and hydrangeas.

The design had very bold colors, but still drew you in with details. How did you achieve this? When you are designing with a bold color, you want to bring variations of that color into the decor to balance the hard and soft. For example, when using black, it’s important to have different textures. A mask black is much harder than a matte black. You can see this in our satin black napkins which were a perfect balance of bold color, and light texture.

What major trends are you seeing brides ask for right now? Greenery is still very popular. Although, it’s a common misconception that greenery is less expensive! Designs that incorporate different textures of greenery can be just as costly as blooms. We are also seeing a bigger trend toward head tables and estate tables. They are a great conversation piece and give that wow effect when you walk into the room.
