Real Wedding: Quirky Superstition

Becca and Trey Various were married on Friday, October 13, 2017. From opened umbrellas indoors to breaking a mirror, the day was a creative vision from the self-proclaimed “slightly odd” couple. Read more about the wedding day from Becca, captured by Peter Togel Photography.

We got married on Friday, October 13th, 2017 in a town called Hiram, Georgia. Ninety-percent of our family lives in or close to Hiram so it was an easy location. Chene Rouge was the perfect fit for us. They loved all of the ideas we had for a very nontraditional wedding. My husband and I both embrace being a little odd, so it was a perfect fit to get married on a very superstitious day.

The decor was the most important part of the whole wedding to me. I wanted something that was unforgettable and totally my husband and me. I wanted every superstition I could think of incorporated into the wedding – breaking a mirror, a spider on my wedding dress, opening umbrellas indoors, ravens, black cats, knocking on wood, and even the salt ceremony that has a superstitious meaning behind it.

One of the most memorable events of the day was when my husband and two of his groomsmen came out dressed as Michael Myers, Freddy Krueger, and Jason Voorhees. I could not stop laughing. It was completely unexpected. I was surprised he was able to keep something like that from me.

The biggest piece of advice I could offer another bride-to-be is, please don’t feel bad to ask for help. It took so much out of me trying to do everything myself. By the day of the wedding, I was so exhausted that I couldn’t think straight enough to remember my vows! Just relax and enjoy the process. It is a stressful time but it can also be a very fun time if you let it be!

When we met Peter and Karen I was stunned at the photos they took and how nice and fun they would be. From all of the pieces of advice I got from other people about planning a wedding, the most common was, “Don’t skimp on a photographer!” After seeing their work, the decision was easy. They are so much fun and weird, so we meshed together perfectly.

Best wishes, Mr. and Mrs. Various!
