Behind the Design: Utopian Events

When brides entered White Hall of Southern Exchange at 200 Peachtree at Bridal Extravaganza of Atlanta, there was a lot of pointing, smiles and gasping at the first gallery in their line of sight. Utopian Events is known for their reception backdrops and their gallery display for Bridal Extravaganza of Atlanta did not disappoint.

We caught up with Angelica Boyd, one of the designers from the Utopian Events team, to learn more about what went into this striking design.

What was your inspiration for this design? Since 2017 was full of blush and gold, we want it to create something different and contemporary for spring. We really wanted a design that would excite any bride and make her think and even feel in new, exciting ways. We were inspired by the beautiful lynx silver and white linen with square and round patterns. It moved us to create a contemporary and chic look. Our ambition was to be unique and create something was out of the box.

What color schemes, textures, and themes were included? Our color palette was silver, yellow and green. Mirrors were a focal point for the silver, with our gorgeous mirror backdrops and “tree mirror centerpieces” that had cascading crystals.

What’s your design process like? A creation of this caliber is only possible with a great team. Our team gets together to brainstorm often and enthusiastically. We play and argue until we birth beautiful concepts full of details and beauty.

What keeps you inspired? Inspiration is a beautiful gift and can come from anywhere. A piece of fabric, a beautiful morning, a flower, a color, and of course from our brides and their wonderful dreams and visions.

What is your favorite thing about weddings? Our favorite thing about weddings is to see the brides and the grooms’ faces when they enter the room and they are mesmerized and enchanted by our amazing décor. To see them happy and in love makes our hard work so fulfilling and rewarding.

Behind the Design: Chuck Milne

While pale pinks and taupes been popular in weddings, trends featured in August’s Bridal Extravaganza of Atlanta predict bold pops of color and more lush greenery for upcoming wedding seasons.

Always bringing garden party vibes to Bridal Extravaganza of Atlanta, Chuck Milne’s gallery with Club Corp drew brides in with large statement arrangements, cascading greenery and punches of hot pink and orange. Read on for a look behind the design with Chuck Milne of Chuck Milne Productions

What inspired this design? This design was inspired by a bride and her mother. The bride’s style was very organic, colorful, brave and whimsical. She had pinned a picture of a Mackenzie Childs chair she loved that had multiple patterns and was very whimsical. The mother of the bride was more traditional and preferred blush and gold. Our design was a nod to the pair with colorful and bold patterns channeling texture mixture like Mackenzie Childs, but with a touch of tradition throughout.

The cake display really caught brides’ attention, how did you make this a centerpiece? The cake design was inspired by the watercolor table linen. We took a photo of the watercolor linen, ran it through the computer,  then Perfect Wedding Cake replicated it with a painted design. Rather than putting the beautiful cake on a standard table, we wanted it to sit up more and be a centerpiece for the whole design so we put it on a large urn with greenery.

There is an art to the perfectly designed table. Tell us about how you layered so many elements for a cohesive design. The bride loved fruit, she had tons of fruit images pinned on her Pinterest board so we incorporated oranges for a pop of color and depth. The linen was from I Do Linens and was at the center of much of the design. For the place settings, we took inspiration from the bride and her mother. Inspired by the bride, we did a leaf-shaped charger that was organic and whimsical. To give a nod to tradition for the mother’s style, we did vintage gold plates, gold silverware, and glassware.

What is your process like working with brides? Anytime I talk to brides, I will start by looking at their Pinterest board. Even if they don’t know what they want. Seeing images they like and have repinned is helpful to see their style. I take it as my job to reign in their style no matter how many different things they may have interest in.

Behind the Design: Imperial Events

One of our favorite things about Bridal Extravaganza of Atlanta is getting to see vendors’ designs come to life with wedding-ready displays. Displays always incorporate the latest trends, and are a way for brides to sit down at a perfectly designed table and envision being at their wedding reception.

What was your inspiration for this design?  My inspiration for the design I chose to showcase at this fall Bridal Extravaganza bridal show was the change in seasons. I find that some brides are torn between the time of year they should have their wedding and because of those brides I wanted to share a design that could be presented in the spring or summer as well as the fall or winter.

What color schemes, textures, and themes were included? To ensure that a bride will be able to see that she could use this design any time of the year, I incorporated colors of fuchsia and purple to the color scheme for my design table. While keeping a clean look but creating a modern edge to the design, I selected a gray stain linen accented with gray linen napkins embroidered in black, along with acrylic Chiavari chairs and acrylic place cards. The acrylic place cards made for that extra special detail touch that every bride plans for on their Big Day!

What’s your design process like? When beginning my design process, I consider the venue or location as well as the time of the day of the event. With this design, I was not familiar with where my design table would be which made designing the tablescape more exciting. When I am on unfamiliar grounds, I always go for more of neutral or diverse color scheme to make sure the design makes a statement and still relay the message of a modern clean design look and feel.

What keeps you inspired? What keeps me inspired as a planner is meeting new people and creating new relationships on a daily and weekly basis. Not to mention I love the creativity my career offers me, not too many people can start their work day off by saying what new will happen today and be really excited about the new things rather it be clients, wedding professionals or learning something new.

What is your favorite thing about weddings? My favorite things about weddings are seeing the enthusiasm and excitement when my clients enter the ballroom and see everything that they have spent days, hours, as well as their hard, earn money on come together and exceed their exception. Not to mention at the end of the night when the client leaves and they say thank you for a planning a great wedding, but when their guest is leaving and say thank you for a great time;  It lets me know that I have done my job!

Behind the Design: Perfect Petals Design Group

The Bridal Extravaganza of Atlanta always features gorgeous wedding designs and this August  was one of the most spectacular as Perfect Petals Design Group inspired brides with a beautiful
“walk through” Southern garden.

The romantic gallery included greenery, soft pink, and statement white furniture. Read more about the inspiration behind the design from Christine Crowley of Perfect Petals Design Group

What was your inspiration for this design? The garden archway was inspired by the feel of early Summer breezes through a Southern garden.

What colors, textures, and themes were included in the design? Our gallery featured the year’s most popular requests. The color palette was made up of soft blush, baby pinks, vanilla, and champagne. The feel of summer was brought to life with wispy foliage and accents of amaranthus and white cherry blossoms in our archway.

Brides couldn’t stay away from the garden-style estate table, tell us more about that design. The wooden estate table had coordinating wooden chairs with an acrylic cut out for a twist on the romantic style. To balance modern with classic, we had garden-style floating centerpieces with roses, ranunculus, gardenia foliage, peonies, phalaenopsis orchids, and lisianthus.

What keeps you inspired? Brides are always my source of inspiration for a design.

Behind the Design: Southern Exchange at 200 Peachtree

This August, Bridal Extravaganza of Atlanta found a new home in the beautiful Southern Exchange at 200 PeachtreeWhite Hall has iconic crystal chandeliers and marble columns that bring natural elegance to any event. As the home of Bridal Extravaganza of Atlanta, Southern Exchange at 200 Peachtree also had a featured gallery in White Hall for brides to mingle with coordinators, preferred vendors and get a feel for the amazing ideas that can come to life in the space.

Here’s a look behind the design of the Southern Exchange at 200 Peacthree gallery from the perspective of Tamara Comstock, the gorgeous venue’s marketing coordinator extraordinaire.

What was the design inspired by? Our design was inspired by our various vendors that we have great relationships with. We wanted them to highlight their work in our gallery space. We worked with AFR for the seating, M&M for the linens, and Chuck Milne Productions for the flowers.

Whitehall is a beautiful canvas for weddings.

What color schemes, textures and themes were included? We started with the Pantone color of the year, Greenery, to inspire brides with a trendy hue. From there, we brought in the popular but classic blush and champagne. Then we handed over to our professional vendors to handle the details!

The iconic chandeliers in Whitehall always take center stage.

What do you love about weddings? We love hosting weddings at 200 Peachtree, and treasure being a part of such an important day for so many brides.
