5 Tips for Wedding Cake Shopping

We know you’re excited to taste delicious wedding cakes, but what are the best ways to go about the wedding cake shopping process? We asked Amanda Karmazin from Gigi’s Cupcakes at the Forum to share her expertise with us. Read on for her advice! Bon appetit!

If you know your family and friends like to eat (especially sweets!), then order a package size up. Or, you can simply add on some additional dessert bar items such as lemon bars, chocolate covered strawberries, mini cupcakes, mini cannolis, brownie bites or more!

On the other hand, if you know your guests will not be big eaters or if they are very health conscious, you may be safer ordering a slightly smaller cupcake package or cake. If you want the height of a large cake but not all the actual cake, ask about doing some fake layers.

Do you prefer the look of a traditional stacked wedding cake?

Or would you prefer something a bit more fun (but still sophisticated) like cupcakes? We highly recommend a 6″ cutting cake for the bride and groom to cut for great photos, in addition to your yummy cupcakes. With this option, you would not incur a cutting fee for the cupcakes and you can get a larger variety of flavors and designs for your guests.

Buttercream is the most cost efficient option and usually more crowd pleasing. Buttercream can give you a wide variety of textures and looks for different styles of weddings. Definitely my pick for any type of rustic wedding.
If your wedding is going to be formal, I would suggest fondant. Fondant will give you a much cleaner, smoother, more glamorous touch with lots of bling!

Be aware of where your desserts are going to be located. If you are getting married in the middle of the summer, do NOT plan on putting them outside. They will melt! Also keep them away from direct sunlight. The best place is a nice cool location, set away from the rest of your food. Also, make sure they are in a place where you can see and enjoy them!

The most important and usually fun part of your wedding cake/cupcakes is the design and flavors. When scheduling a tasting, it is great to have an idea of what you would like at your wedding. Ask when scheduling if you can try specific flavors. It’s also really helpful to bring photos for inspiration. Just keep in mind that the more detailed a design, the higher the cost. Know the difference between sugar flowers and real flowers. These are all things that will make your consultation a fun and easy process! Let them eat cake!

The Mega-Moon: Trending in Honeymoon Travel

After all the effort you put in planning your dream wedding day, you deserve an epic honeymoon! Even better, having a professional plan all the details will ensure a stress-free getaway. We talked to Epperly Travel to get the inside scoop on what’s currently trending in honeymoon planning. Bon voyage!

The biggest trend we’re seeing in the honeymoon industry is the rise of the “mega-moon”! Mega-moons are the perfect solution for couples who want to experience a place that they have never seen before. It is an incredible way to achieve the dreams of the bride and groom for an unforgettable getaway.

A true mega-moon consists of a multi-country or even multi-continent itinerary for one epic honeymoon. Now more than ever we’re sending clients across the globe for their honeymoon–combining the romance of Paris with the allure of Mauritius, pairing multiple countries throughout Southeast Asia or lounging in a bure in Fiji before jetting off to New Zealand for the thrill of a new adventure.

These once in a lifetime trips are enabling honeymooners to jam-pack their stay with plenty of activities unique to each destination, while still getting to enjoy some R&R on the last few days of their trip.

November Bride of the Month | Kimberly

Meet Kimberly, our November Bride of the Month! She and her fiance, Brad, are getting married in Williamson, Georgia in May 2017!

How did he propose? Brad and I have been together for four and a half years. During this time, there is one thing that we have learned–neither of us can keep a secret! We talked about getting married and we picked out the ring, so I knew it was coming. I just didn’t know exactly when. He was leaving for training in a few months, and I assumed it would be after he returned. We went on our annual Memorial Day getaway to Port St. Joe, Florida–our favorite vacation spot!

Our first night there, Brad was very concerned about the sunset. He even went so far as to look up the exact sunset time! (He NEVER plans anything). We were driving on the beach around sunset, and it was gorgeous. We went through the state park entrance and parked on the beach. Unfortunately, we had to leave early because the park closed at sunset due to turtle mating season. Brad was devastated, but we ended up going to the bay park and walking out to the boardwalk. We started taking some photos and Brad said, “Why don’t you take a picture of this?” I looked over and he was down on one knee with the ring. He was shaking and tearing up; I thought for sure he was going to drop the ring through the gaps in the walkway! But luckily he didn’t and I said yes! It was absolutely beautiful. The best sunset ever!

What has been the most difficult and most fun part of the wedding planning process?

Family conflicts have been hard to deal with, but I believe the most difficult part has been the guest list! Trying to nail down family lists, deciding which family friends to invite and which friends we would like to include, etc. Our goal was to invite 150 guests. I gave up at 175!

As for the most fun, I’m so excited to finally be the one making the decisions! (I’m an event coordinator so I’m used to doing what each client would like). But the best part is the time we get to spend together planning. Brad is out of state training for an airline, so when he is home it’s nice to have quality time together to plan the wedding. He is just as excited about everything as I am! I love that he wants to be involved and part of the planning process. Since he is a pilot and I work at a restaurant/museum at an airport, our theme is Fly Away With Us! We are getting married at a restaurant/vintage cars and planes museum and grass runway. It’s actually where we met!

Congratulations Kimberly and Brad! We can’t wait to see the wedding photos!

Spring 2017 Trends and Upcoming Trunk Shows

Getting married next spring? We rounded up some of our favorite Spring 2017 bridal trends and upcoming trunk shows so you can see the best new designs!

Jennifer Rovansek, owner of Bride Beautiful of Atlanta, just got back from market buying gowns for their 2017 brides. “Upcoming trends include beaded mermaids, lace ballgowns and sexy crepe gowns to pull off that European look that is so popular right now.  One of our favorite upcoming trends is the use of different variations of lace, layered on top of each other to create a unique pattern and vintage feel.  We cannot wait for these new gowns to come in!” she said.

“Our designers were clearly inspired by romance of epic proportions for the Spring 2017 season!” said Jacqueline Westney, owner of Wedding Angels Bridal Boutique. “We saw crepe featured in every fashion show, paired with exquisite beadwork or timeless lace for the ultimate sophisticated look. Silhouettes to flatter a woman’s figure were covered in beadwork to die for! Hayley Paige used cosmic-inspired star shaped sequins on several of her gowns. Removable trains of organza or lace made their fashion debut for this season, a convertible feature giving brides the option to wow their guests with cathedral length trains for the ceremony and remove them at the reception. By far the most exceptional emerging trend was the sheer, unlined side cutouts on gown bodices. We were wowed at every turn as we discovered all this season had to offer! We can’t wait to invite brides into our boutique as these gowns begin to arrive. Keep an eye on our Facebook and Instagram!”

Silhouettes that are flowy and lightweight. Simplistic and elegant designs match the mood for a sunset beach wedding.
